share dial-up ppp using appletalk

We use software called WinGate to allow three or four [or more] Win95 machines to sharea single dial-up ppp connection on a modem hooked up to one machine.

We'd like to do the same thing with three or four Macs.  Is there software out there to do this?

WinGate is actually shareware and free for the first two computers.  If more than two share the connection, you ahve to register the software.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There is software to do this. it's called Portshare.  It will let one of the macs use the modem on another mac over appletalk to establish a ppp connection.  Although this works, its not like wingate because when one computer is using the port which has the modem on it, none of the other computers including the port host machine can use it.  It's kind of fun to fool around with, i mean you can dial out from your machine downstairs on a modem upstairs connected to another computer, or use a printer for that matter, but it's not very practical for sharing an internet connection.  Other than that, i don't know of any software which would allow you do share the ppp connection.

Maybe Vicom Internet Gateway (http://www.vicomtech.com/)is a software you need. It works like a software IP router. They have a demo.

Best regards.
