Pls suggest some movie making software

I'm looking for software that can produce .avi files
The software should be able to draw my own pictures.
Actually, I have one in my mind --- 3D studio, but
are there any other?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I have no idea about moving making software, but can offer a general suggestion...

Get some literature for 3D studio - anything like an ad or look at the boxed software. The ad or box will usually list reviewer's comments, something like:

"Rated best by Movie World Magazine, July 1992"

Then go find "Movie World" magazine (or whatever) and read the reviews. This will let you know who 3D Studio's competition is.

Depending on how much you want to spend, you have a number of options.

3D Studio Max is a suberb product.  It will allow you to create broadcast quality animations and write them to virtually any format you like.  However, not only is it expensive ($3000?) but the hardware requirements are extreme.  You'll need a good Pentium (166+) and as much RAM as you can handle (at least 96Mb).  Ideally, you'd want a decent video card as well (Matrox Millenium 4Mb for example).

Lightwave 5.0 is another excellent animation package and costs a fraction of the price ($700?).  Hardware requirements are still a factor but it's not as demanding as Max.

If your animation needs are lower, take a look at Autodesk's Animator Studio, useful and very inexpensive for producing Avis.

If cost is not an issue, you should also look at the DPS PVR card - a full length video capture and playback card that can take your 3DS or Lightwave animations and write them to video tape.

Further to my original answer, if you do look towards the DPS PVR, you should definitely get InSync's Speed Razor editing software (www.in-sync.com) which will give incredible editing effects ($1000).
