Madden 97/Modem Problems
This is a very tough, tough question, as both the EA (maker of the game) and Supra (maker of the modem) have yet to provide a solution.
I own a Supra Express 288i PnP and I can make all the calls I want to other opponents when I want to play, but I can't receive any. For some reason, when someone calls me, we always get hung up on the verification (which is the handshake negotiation). EA Sports told me that I needed to turn the compression off - %C0 -, disable the flow control - &K -, and disable the error correction - &M0 -, by doing this, my modem would be able to negotiate the handshake and we would connect, thus I created an initialization string of AT&F%C0&K&M0 but had no luck with this either. I have also used basic init. strings, such as AT&F, the generic settings, as well as the preset (Supra settings) and none of them work in regards to receiving calls. Yet, I can receive calls from another Supra modem, without any problems, so receiving calls does work.
Finally, My modem is a SupraExpress 288i PnP at 28.8 speed.
In essence, my question is: "How do I get my Supra Modem to receive calls from non-Supra Modems"?

My 2 cents worth, if you have AC in your car and it doesn't work, just roll down the window, don't worry about the freaking hot summer heat, "you have to do what works, and not worry about
the rest..." I want it to work because it (theoretically) is supposed to work. If you can't figure out the problem, then why bother answering with a ludicrous comment???...Wait, I have one more, If your car doesn't run, just walk, "you have to do what works, and not worry about the rest..."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, heck you didn't even offer a solution to your "...one simple solution"

try running a windows based modem finding and setuping program, even the 1 that can be found in ur Control Panel in Win 95',right afterwards, run the game, and hope for the best.
besides,i can see ur connected to the net,u can always play the game through it

Not all modems can talk properly to all other modems.
What modems are trying to call you?
Sounds like the Supra isn't very compatible... except to other Supra's.
And you talked to the manufacturer and they didn't suggest
maybe you need to upgrade the firmware of your modem?
Could be it needs up'n.
Also is this the only game that this is a problem?
Try Doom...
If it works the way you want Madden to work then...
Madden=screwy...
'It's not a bug, it's a feature...'

I don't have other modem games (I'm only a Madden fan), but I will ask Supra about a firmware upgrade and ask them to tell me what it is?
Just my two cents worth,
