Netbieu is realy necessary

I have this doubt many time ago.
When I map a drive in Windows NT or Windows 95 with
other station (with one of the operating systems above)
( a peer to peer connection)
a need to have the Netbieu protocol active or I can
map drives with other protocols like TCP/IP and
  IPX ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No need for NETBEUI, IPX or TCP/IP will do as well.

We ahve fount that if our environment, many large subnet, that overall network traffic is reduced by having both TCP/ip and Netbeui installed.  Main reason is mail.  Most of our employes are sending mail to other users within their subnet.  Netbeui handles this trafic well while TCP/IP handles the mail trafic that crosses subnet or the internet .

designer,

by what degree (%) has your network traffic decreased, and for what reason?  It's not that I doubt what you have found, I am just interested in the numbers.
