CD-ROM drive problem

I have a Micron P100 with a Mitsumi 4X cd-rom drive.  The
problem with the drive is that quite often, when I open the
tray, the disc is still spinning even after the tray opens.
This causes scratches in the discs and although the scratches are minor, I am afraid they will affect performance.  The drive has done this since new, and a replacement drive from Micron that I installed a year ago continues to do the same thing.  Is there anything I can do
to try to resolve this issue, outside of replacing the drive
with another model?

Thank you,

Try getting an update for the driver from:

http://www.mitsumi.com/drivers.htm

Don't get your hopes up though, I have a Mitsumi 1X and a Samsung 4X. Mitsumi works fine. The Samsung used to, but then stopped detecting the open state and started to do what your drive does. If your problem is hardware related, You'l probably need another drive. If thats the case, check to see if the waranty hasn't expired.
