modem not responding

When I try to dial to get Internet connection through my second telephone line - eventhough I have dial tone, it complains about "NO DIALTONE, CHECK YOUR MODEM". What could be the problem?

If it is not in the right jack (LINE), then no dial tone will be found..

Also if another program is using the modem, the same message may appear..

If all is well there; then check the modem setup itself.
Should be on IRQ 3   Com 2..
A simple IRQ or Com conflict will also cause this error..
Are you sure the line is plugged into the right jack on the modem?  If you have a desktop case it should be in the bottom jack, if you have a tower it should be on the left(from the back view).
You could try to compare the dialtone of one phone line to the other.  One line may be very noisy and disturb the dialtone do the modem can not here it.  Does the modem work with the other line?
