word count on entire site

I need to find a program (HTML editor, site builder, utility, etc.) that will count the words in my HTML site. Ideally, the program would check all of my pages with a minimum of input from me. Of course, the program must not include words in HTML tags, scripts, etc. in the count.

Which platform are you on? I can't recommend any particular program at this stage but perhaps setting up a macro is what you need. Open all the .htm(l) files, strip all the text between <??> and merge all the files into one, which will give you still just a very close approximate word count. BB Edit on the Mac can strip all the hypertext markup at the click of a button. I am assuming you have site smaller than 200 pages.

Good luck

I'm using Windows 95, and I have a very large site (250-300 pages). Any suggestions about a utility that I can use to create this macro? I have limited experience creating macros (I've written a few in MS Word).
