Getty Login Problem

Why would linux 2.0.29 fail to issue a login banner after say one day uptime but after rebbot re-issue the login prompt. The system is a P133 with 64Mb RAM and runs ApacheHTTp Server Software.

Check file /etc/rc.d/rc.S
Add a "#" at the begining of each line to comment the following lines out:
echo > /etc/issue
echo Welcome .....  >> /etc/issue
echo >> /etc/issue
echo .... >> /etc/issue
