I can't log into a win NT server from linux. The problem is the different authentication method what Microsoft uses. I'd like to solve the problem. Could anyone help me with this?

Hello All,

If you want connect your Linux box on a NT/win95 RAS server,
you can use PAP protocol (checkbox "Allow any authentication including clear text")
or MSCHAP protocol ("Require Microsoft encrypted authentication").

How to setup Linux MSCHAP :

get libdes-4_00_tar.gz You will obtain libdes.a

get ppp-2.2.0g-7.tar.gz  from ftp.iron.com.br/public/Linux/misc/

Also available: ppp-2_3b3_tar.gz at cs.anu.edu.au

Comment ifdef or define USE_MSCHAP in ppp_source_code/pppd/Makefile:

# ifdef USE_MSCHAP
PPPDSRCS += md4.c chap_ms.c
PPPDOBJS += md4.o chap_ms.o
CFLAGS   += -DUSE_MSCHAP
LIBS     += -ldes
# endif

Files examples (not for generic use):

/etc/ppp/chap-secrets:
skynet administrator yourpassword
administrator skynet yourpassword

/etc/ppp/options:
lcp-echo-interval 20
lcp-echo-failure 3
asyncmap 00000000
lock
modem
crtscts
mtu 296
mru 296

/etc/ppp/dial:
/usr/sbin/pppd /dev/modem 38400 debug proxyarp 45.34.100.64: name administrator remotename skynet connect '/etc/ppp/sdial on'

/etc/ppp/sdial
#!/bin/sh
#
# This is part 2 of the ppp-on script. It will perform the connection
# protocol for the desired connection.
#
if [ "$1" = "on" ]; then
      # connect
      exec chat -v                                    \
      TIMEOUT            5                        \
      ABORT            '\nBUSY\r'                  \

      ABORT            '\nRING\r'                  \
      ''            AT                        \
      'OK-+++\c-OK-+++\c-OK'      'ATH'                        \
