preferences lost...

I have a problem wiht my perfomra 6115CD (16MB RAM)

Ok, when ever I start up the computer, It locks up until I turn it back off and on and then some (not all) of my control panel preferences are lost (I have to reset the time and date and the chooser selection. Any clues?

The internal battery of the computer is obviously on its last legs (they should last about 2 years at least, but there are no guarantees on that.) I believe that they are about US$15 or so to replace. If you don't like digging about in the innards of your computer, then take it to your nearest Mac service store and they'll put it in for you.
