Using an apc 400 ups with the ability to run power chute, what are the pin setting on the female end ( ups) and the male end ( com port), to let you use the ups software with windows Nt 4.0, i am considering wireing the cable myself to save some $$$$$.
      Thanx
Ps. Will this work?( mabe this is the question i should have asked first) and if so are there any special considerations i should note?

Hi ironclaw,

there are two cable pin outs for the APC USV.
First for simple signalling this is a cable that have inside
a connection between 7 and 1 on female side with a diode.
I don't think you make this cable by yourselve but in the following is the pin out

M            F
1---------------4
2---------------8
4-------I-------5
9-------I            4 and 9 connected

      I-------1
I-------7      1 and 7 connected over something like a                         diode

The second cable is for smart signalling and I think without any things in the connector.
Pin Out:

M            F
1---------------3
2---------------2
9---------------5
      I-------1
      I-------4      1 and 4 connected

      I-------7      7 and 8 connected
      I-------8

Both cables work with NT Server 4.0
If you could increase your points and give a good grade, I could send you a cable because I have three and don't need all.

Well what are you asking points wise. i dont have all that much, but for your research i could look into it :o) ,, and i really could use that cable :o) ( the smart cable), and does your UPS actually shut off the computer, when i do a shutdown from a control alt delete, my computer just reboots.

I would be willing to pay for shipping and handleing for your efforts. ( within reason)
