ClarisWorks conversion

What common (and more recent) Macintosh WP software can convert and open ClarisWorks 2.1 files? (the same way MS Word 7.0 opens Word Perfect files) A notebook where ClarisWorks 2.1 is installed crashed, and I have discs full of Claris files - how can I recover the data short of purchasing ClarisWorks again? Thanks very much.

Not many, as far as I can see. Pagemaker 6.x will open and convert Clarisworks files quite well, though I notice headers and footers don't come through.  If you have it then at least you can print the Clarisworks files, but you can't save them in any other format. Of course, if you don't have PM6 then this is not much use. As far as I can see, neither Word nor WP are interested in converting Clarisworks files.

I suggest several other work-arounds.

Firstly, if your copy of ClarisWorks was acquired legally in the first place (you did say "buy AGAIN"), Claris should be able to help you if you contact them with your original registration number. But if it was on a notebook you bought from someone else and you don't have the original disks, then you may be able to buy a legitimate second-hand copy of Clarisworks 2.1, which is not the latest version.

Alternatively, if you can find a person who has Clarisworks 2.1 on their drive (and you cannot copy it legally) then you could at least open the Clarisworks files on that person's computer and save them in RTF format to your floppy disk, which will guarantee that absolutely all formatting goes across. All major wordprocessors read RTF, even if they don't read Clarisworks 2.1.

I don't see any other solution.
