tracing the ide

Is there a possible way  to detect, in the program when it is running from
whitin the ide or not.

Try looking around <A HREF="http://SunSite.Informatik.RWTH-Aachen.DE/delphi/"> DSP</A>, would be rather strange if there didn't exist a good component/unit for this already.

I believe you can check a component's ComponentState property looking for the csDesigning flag.  For the docs:

csDesigning      Design mode, meaning it is in a form being manipulated by a form designer.

Further, this property exists on the Application object which is globally available and may give you what you need.
