I've been tasked with coding some SNMP retrieval programs.
We are gathering information from routers/hubs/servers and clients.
I need direction on where to go for SNMP function calls and general programming information (i.e what to look for in the Help files or which book to buy).

From MS Development Library:
---------------------------
The SNMP functions are listed in three major categories.
Agent Functions
The agent functions define the interface between the extensible agent and the ISV-developed extension agent DLLs.
SnmpExtensionInit
SnmpExtensionInitEx
SnmpExtensionQuery
SnmpExtensionTrap
Manager Functions
The manager functions define the interface between ISV-developed manager applications and the management function dynamic-link library MGMTAPI.DLL.
SnmpMgrClose
SnmpMgrGetTrap
SnmpMgrOidToStr
SnmpMgrOpen
SnmpMgrRequest
SnmpMgrStrToOid
SnmpMgrTrapListen
Utility Functions
The utility functions simplify manipulation of SNMP data structures and perform other miscellaneous operations.
SnmpUtilMemAlloc
SnmpUtilMemFree
SnmpUtilMemReAlloc
SnmpUtilOidAppend
SnmpUtilOidCmp
SnmpUtilOidCpy
SnmpUtilOidFree
SnmpUtilOidNCmp
SnmpUtilPrintAsnAny
SnmpUtilVarBindCpy
SnmpUtilVarBindListCpy
SnmpUtilVarBindFree
SnmpUtilVarBindListFree

The following structures are used with SNMP.
AsnAny
AsnObjectIdentifier
AsnOctetString
RFC1157VarBind
RFC1157VarBindList

TCP/IP standards are defined in Requests for Comments (RFCs), which are published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The RFCs that are relevant to SNMP features are listed in the following table.
RFC number      Title
1155      Structure and identification of management information for TCP/IP-based internets. It defines SMI.MIB.
1157      Simple network management protocol (SNMP). It defines SNMP itself.
1213      Management Information Base for Network Management of TCP/IP-based internets: MIB - II. It defines MIB_II.MIB.

Just a quick copy'n paste. I'd suggest you get MSDL and use that for reference. Also, the RFCs are ofcourse worth reading.

Erik.
