When you say 'run it as an application', do you mean a system application, or do you mean you're accessing the applet through Netscape or IE? If you're running it as a system application I would expect problems since Applets are designed for web browsers and appletviewer. If you're running it on Netscape/Ie, your problem may be that you're using JDK 1.1.2. Netscape 3 and IE 3 only support JDK 1.0.2, to my knowledge. I'm not sure what Communicator and IE 4 will support yet. Try getting the old JDK (1.0.2). You can still find that on www.javasoft.com. I've got both on my workstation so I can write applets that will surely be compatible with Netscape and IE 3. Hope that helps.
