I have a counter image on my page, but can you tell me where to get an actual counter and how to make it work through the HTML code?

try http://www.worldwidemart.com/scripts. matt's script archive has several counting scripts that are free to download. configuration documentation is extensive and easy to follow.

the free for all javascript website also offers free counting scripts (javascript) that can be embedded in the html document.

but to answer your original question....there is no way to create a counter using html code.

hope this is helpful
