License information for this component is not found.

Recently, I cannot load and use all my VB controls... eg. Threed32. Both for VB4.0 and VB5.0. I always get the following messages... "License information for this component is not found. You do not have an appropriate license to use this functionality in the design environment." Not long ago, I uninstalled Borland Delphi 3.0 and Borland C++ Builder Pro, I wonder if the uninstallation affected VB?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes it DID alas ! They shared the OCX and removed the designer licences. You just have to re-install the controls, either via the install disk(ette)s supplied or with the regocx32 or regit exe.

I tried removing VB5.0 and reinstalling it, but the problem persists... Do i have to remove both VB4.0 and VB5.0 before I reinstall? And I can't find any regocx32 or regit.exe...

Before re-installing VB, you MUST reboot your PC (coz some ocx/dll are still referenced in memory) then launch the new & quite effective free RegClean (download the last new release from the Micro$oft site) to remove the wrong reference(s) to your obsolete controls and then, and only then, re-install either  VB or only the missing control. But most of the time, I use a dos-prompt and use regocx32 or regit, both available on the VB5 CD (coz the SetupWizard use them) and u should copy these exe in the \windows\command directory.1

I was not able to solve the problem with the above Answer and as such kept searching. This is the site http://www.kather.net/VisualBasicSource/KnowledgeBase/q181856.txt where I was able to locate the answer. I needed to register my Threed32.ocx for design time purposes and was not able to do it. This site suggested that I take my VB5.0 installation diskette and go to the VB5.0/Tools/Control directory and run the "vbctrls.reg" file by double clicking it. By doing so I was able to use the controls in design time.
