The Awe64 is a grand sound card in itself. The Gold version (if you guessed) only adds gold connectors.  This only affects the quality of super high quality stereo systems.  If you're like most computer users you're just going to connect it to standard computer speakers that will recieve little if no advantage (atleast nothing you can hear).  So stick with the Awe64, save money, and get a great product!

magooo,
The AWE64 Gold includes the same software as the AWE64. There are only three major differences in the hardware.
1) The SoundFont onboard memory has been increased from 512KB to 4MB.
2) The analog electronics are much better.
3) The Gold provides digital mixing with 20 bit SP/DIF audio output.
Hope that helped

No points needed, I have an AWE64 Value and I love it! Easy installation and it works great with all the software I've tried.  Good luck!
