Virtual web server on Linux 2.0.18

I want to install a virtual server on my own Linux box.
I've already configured all the DNS and the HTTPD.
From the Linux box, I'm able to ping my new virtual server by the name and the IP adress but from the WEB it's impossible.

Someone told me to add a few lines in my /etc/rc.d/rc.local, here are the lines:

insmod -o dummy0 /lib/modules/2.0.18/net/dummy.o
ifconfig dummy0 209.29.68.3 up
route add 209.29.68.3 add dummy0
arp -s 209.29.68.3 `cat /etc/ethers` pub

The file /etc/ethers contain the MAC adress of my ethernet board already installed in my Linux box.

After that I try to look the ifconfig result and it told my that the MAC adress for dummy0 was 00:00:00:00:00:00

What could be my problem ?????

Thanks

Hello,
if you have configured your DNS, i can suggest you another thing to try, with much less work, here is my /var/named/pz/master.dns zone file :

@               IN      SOA     bbs.master.fr. root.master.fr. (
                                1       ; Serial
                                28800   ; Refresh
                                7200    ; Retry
                                604800  ; Expire
                                86400)  ; Minimum TTL

@              IN       NS      bbs.master.fr.

localhost      IN        A      127.0.0.1
bbs            IN        A      192.168.0.2
uc1            IN        A      192.168.0.1
www            IN    CNAME      bbs
ftp            IN    CNAME      bbs

In my uc1 machine /etc/resolv.conf
search master.fr
domain master.fr
nameserver 192.168.0.2

And now, from my "uc1" machine, when i enter www.master.fr netscape jump to my web server. No need to install any virtual web or fake IP adress etc.. just use CNAME :^)

I've tryied your answer but it's not working very well. So instead i reconfigured my DNS to tell to my virtual web server to use the same IP adress of my Linux Box.

Thanks.
