Egret (finder?) crash

OK, I'll be the dummy - what the heck is the "egret trap"?

Perhaps, but everytime I load OT 1.1.2 on my computer my internet connection doesn't work. Thats probably another question if you can answer that I'll give you the points.

the second quetion is simple i think... use free ppp 2.5.3 and if you need help setting that up i know it by heart. also you have to go to tcp/ip and set it to freeppp not appletalk. tell me how it goes.

Well Nate at risk of being rude a am not a computer dummy as you seem to think I am. Thanks for the help anyways. I have actually found the problem and I'll give you a hint if you want.

I wasn't quite clear - is the egret trap what Nate mentioned - an unimplemented trap at certain web sites? If so, I've run into one or two of them in my time and there seems to be little you can do about them until they are fixed at the site. I did find that if you load the site with images off, then it often didn't happen. But I am still a bit fuzzy about whether or not we're talking about the same thing.

The Egret traps controlls the funstions of the Egret Chip. This chip controll functions like date/time utils ADB and other stuffs. I don't beleive you can encounter a wed site with the Egret trap. You could be on a PC site and PC don't have _Egret. Something could trigger it, like if a site made too many timezone queries of your computer.

Thanks, lukec - I was on the wrong track entirely. How much RAM do you have and what is your cache set at in the Memory Control Panel?

o, an uniplemented trap, i understand, it is the web site, you need all the proper plugins and only the new ones plus qt and last of all if none of those work it is totally the web sites fault just turn offauto load images.

The Problem doesn't just occur  while web browsing.

My disk cache is set to 384k and I have 20 megs of memory..... Rifty......

Set the cache to 512 k. This is optimal and may help to stop the crashes. It won't do so absolutely, but it could make a considerable difference.

Max out your RAM. Use Mac OS 7.5.5 for ANY Macintosh (custom install), OT 1.1.2, QT 2.5, FreePPP 2.5.3, Netscape 3.0.1, Ircle 3.0b, Eudora Lite 1.5.4, YANewswatcher 2.2.0 or later. Don't use After Dark, NOW Utilities, or any other form of Mac Cancer.
Note: LC stands for Labotomy Chip. They are not fully functional machines. Expecting them to run as well as fully enabled Macs is unrealistic. Also, it is easy to mess up the upgrade from 7.5 to 7.5.5. Good luck and consider purchasing another Mac and using the LC475 for simple word processing or giving it to your kids or a nearby school.

Your computer "likes to stop in the egret trap" while running "every" application that uses PPP protocals, is that correct?

Addendum: Netscape reportedly calls the PRAM every time you click on a link. The Egret chip controls the PRAM.
