Virus OWOFF in Memory ?

HI
Mcaffee virus shield and web scan software had come installed on my NEC 6050MX. I recently downloaded the latest virus definitions file from Mcaffee and installed it. Now when the laptop boots up it says
Scan 2.5.2 (c) Mcaffee
Loading Virus patterns
virus data file V3007 created 07/01/97 16:29:00
( I think this is the date of the definitions file I downloaded)
Scanning memory for viruses 560 Kb
Traces of OWOFF virus found in memory
This may be an active virus or an image left by a previous operation
Turn off your PC, insert a system bootable disk into the A: drive and turn on the power before rerunning SCAN
If you still receive this message then your system bootable disk is infected and must be replaced by a virus free system bootable disk to continue
Press any key to continue

(if I do this, the scan after inserting the floppy disk does not find anything. The scan run from the computer directly also does not find anything)

However, this message appears regularly on startup and is followed by a dialog after windows is coming on :

Mcafee Virus Shield
Error: Unable to establish communications link between application and device driver.

Any ideas as to what is going on, whether I should be concerned, and what I should do to fix the virus/make this message go away will be appreciated.

You downloaded the wrong version of the virus definitions. Try downloading a file called 9707.zip that fits your viruscan version 2.5.2.
