Personal User Profiles

Our business provides a service to the public and would like users to have their own profiles. I am not sure how to do this because I have heard there are a number of ways. We want this to be very secure in terms of security, so could you please suggest possible ways of implementing this, thanks for your time ... bjhec

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The common way for this is using cookie, it is easiest.  Of course the contents of the cookie will be transfer over the net and I am not sure whether it staisfies your security requirement.

Another way is to store all the profile in your central database, this will require that the user login first so that you can retrieve his profile from the database, this is more secure but of course more complex.

Good luck

Some sort of example or a pointer to some example code would be nice.
