Java Programming question

Hi
I was trying to run the demo applet JdbcApplet.java for jdbc thin driver using the JDK appletviewer from sun.

The applet came up with the "connection refused" exception on the following line of code:
conn = DriverManager.getConnection (connect_string);

the connect_string had been earlier defined as

static final String connect_string =
                  "jdbc:oracle:thin:myuserid/mypassword@myhost:1525:corvus1";

1525 is the port listed in /etc/services for orasrv
corvus1 is the sid as per our administrator sqlplus.
I was running the applet on a Win95 PC from a DOS window and trying to connect to an Oracle8 database on an AIX box.
Do I need to grant some specific permissions ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The proper error should be a security exception as applets are allowed to access the host which they ere loaded from and only it.

In any case (even if you run it frm the AIX host), make sure you have loaded the oracle driver (you can debug the client and do a step into driver manager code and see how it iterates over the loaded drivers).
