Apple CD-Rom Not Responding

After I loaded OS8 and fixed all other problems, when I try to use the Apple Audio CD Player or even use the CD-Rom for any CD, I get an error message saying, "Apple CD-Rom not responding, make sure it's connected and restart...".  The CD-Rom extension is in the extension folder, it is an internal CD-Rom for the Performa 6320CD.

Thanks.

Do you use an external non-Apple branded CD also? Because sometimes Apple/non-Apple CD drivers battle hard. Have you checked for an extension conflict? Go to the basic system configuration in Extensions Manager. If that fails, turn off everything except Apple CD ROM extension & Foreign File Access. Let me know how it goes. I have a couple of suggestions after this.
