I used the class wizard to generate a class from the Word object library. Can anyone please tell me the progarmatic identifier for Word 97 ver 8.0 which is the argument  in the CreateDispatch function. Or Is there any other way I can access Word from VC++ ver 5.0.

The string you need to use with CreateDispatch() is "Word.Application.8".

Sorry, I've never encountered that error message. You'd better post another question about this new topic.
