Mac 7.5.5, 6500/250/33.6 geoport internal modem. Using either AICK or FreePPP if encounters engaged tone the modem locks out. If I try "retry" the dialog "the modem could not estabvlish a connect with the remote server"...but it does even get around to trying to re-dial. I have to use express modem control panel to switch the modem on/off again.

Any thoughts..please!

Apple has in fact designed the modem to be like this. Depending on what country you are in, your modem will allow you to encounter X number of busy signals, and then refuse to work for about 30 minutes to an hour or until you turn it off then on again..
I also find this situation highly frustrating.
