autoexec.bat-do I need it in windows95

My system crashed; it's going again, but sure of structure of autoexec.bat.  Does not roll into Win95, stops at Dos prompt, then must type in Win.  Where can I read to understand relationship between Dos and Win95?  Would like to understand the sys, com, how they relate to startup.

Ok, does that mean that I can do away with the autoexec.bat file in C:\ (in Explorer) and it will automatically go into Win 95?  Also I would like a recommendation of book on this type of subject.  Que's Windows doesn't discuss.  Why do I have four separate autoexec. bats for different programs, like Flt Sim, etc.
Yes you can get rid of it. Just rename it in case there are important drivers in it that other progs may need. Did you install a Win95 version of Flight Sim? If not, Flt Sim will modify the autoexec if need be. Some programs which run in DOS Protected mode load autoexecs when starting up.
