Trident 9440 setup

Does the Trident 9440 support resolution higher than 256 colours?  I got drivers from their website which allow me to select High Colour or True Colour, but when I restart the computer, the screen looks like garbage.  I have to reboot in safe mode and restore the old settings (Trident Super VGA in 256 colours).  I haven't had any success with the 9440 drivers.

I have two drivers:
Trident 9440 Linear Accelerated for PCI
Trident TGUI 9440 Linear Addrressing for PCI

What's the difference?  Which should I use?

Check your Trident PCI Card for the RAM onboard, chipset & BIOS date & the drivers date. Post it here & I will try to find the solution for you.

ok you will have to restore the old drivers for the trident video card and uninstall the drivers you got from their website because the drivers from their website might not be meant for your video card.Contact Me if you need more help.

The driver I have been using all along is Trident Super VGA, and I'm trying to upgrade to proper 9440 drivers.

Moonshi, where would I find this information?  On the card itself is the following:

Trident
TGUI9440-1
F80636-UM.B
TMI D
TDQXI051-SW
9539
(c)Trident '94
