Look on your CW Documentation tree for Apple[doc]:Rez Documentation:DeRez and Rez.

This file explains how to use Rez.

If you are looking for a quick start and have MPW handy, try this.
Load MPW and type "derez…". (If you can't read the ellipsis character in your browser, I typed derez followed by Option+;).
You will get a commando window for the derez command. Select any resource file e.g. your application and select all the files from MPWs "RIncludes" directory.
Choose a new output file from the redirect output pop-up and click "Derez".

You should now have a file with all of the resources from the chosen resource file in rez format. You can add this to your CodeWarrior project and play with it to your heart's content.
The first thing to do perhaps, is to add the following lines at the top:

#include <Types.r>
#include <SysTypes.r>

Take a look inside these two files and see how templates are constructed.
I think that there should be enough information there to get you started.
This is of course no substitute for reading the Rez Documentation, but it sure beats working from a book and a blank screen.

Happy Hunting!
