The following is an excerpt from the header file COMMCTRL.H. That means they are the same in Win32 and ANSI version.

#ifdef _WIN32
#define WC_TABCONTROLA          "SysTabControl32"
#define WC_TABCONTROLW          L"SysTabControl32"

#ifdef UNICODE
#define  WC_TABCONTROL          WC_TABCONTROLW
#else
#define  WC_TABCONTROL          WC_TABCONTROLA
#endif

#else
#define WC_TABCONTROL           "SysTabControl"
#endif

I think that is for compatibility of 16-bit MFC.

I remember Microsoft Visual C++ 1.52 can create a tab control and a property sheet. But they are not based on Windows 95 or NT's common controls.
