Best DB For Commercial Application

Hi,

I'm putting together a commercial application - one I want to sell through te Internet.  I'm very worried about someone 'hacking' to my tables once they are deployed and doing whatever with teh data.  I'm currently using Paradox, but I have access to create a dBASE table through P7 (of course) and I have Access97.  Which of these databases are the most secure for commerical applications.

I know I could add a password, but there are tricks all around on how to break the enturnal DB security schemes.  i also 'heard' encrypting and decrypting DB tables tend to have an adverse effect on them in the long run.  Can someone refer me to a good DB encryption program - preferably Freeware?

If your choice is limited to DBF, Paradox and Access, I would say that Access is the best for commercial deployment. DBF is no doubt the easiest to use, but then anybody can break into DBF files and do what they want. Access is atleast a proper database with all the tables in one single MDB file. You can also consider using BTrieve, your data is not only much more secure, your processing speed also goes up drastically.

Encryption/Decryption may not be a good option as people will still try to open the files using any editor and they might end up corrupting files ( For example, almost all editors replace chr(0) with chr(32) ). That is why among most RDBMS, encryption is used for transferring data and not for storing data.
