reading from parallel port

how can i read from parallel port ? I can read it with PORT command byte per byte , but that's too slow

Normal parallel port can only be used by reading it from the port. ECP uses a DMA channel, so that would be faster. EPP has some enhancements to the function of the parallel port, but it still is byte-by-byte.

So basically, you can only do it the hard way.
