If you are getting an interruptible reading of your CD-ROM normally it is bad news.  Sometimes the drive fail and the beams cannot read properly the CD. (this has happened a lot on some brand which would not be appropriate to list them here)

Now you have mentionned exactly what error do you get but I would assume you're getting "not ready reading drive xx" under windows and Dos.

If this is the kind of message you're getting, it would be safe to assume that the drive is deffective.

Sorry for being the one to give you the bad news.

Regards
