Which componets of Now Utilities are compatible with OS 8?

   Now AutoType
   Now FolderMenus
   Now Menus*
   Now QuickFiler*
   Now Save*
   Now Shortcuts
   Now Startup Manager
   Now Super Boomerang
   Now Tabs
   Now WYSIWYG Menus*
   Now Profile
   Now Scrapbook*

The ones with an  *   I am particularly interested in.  For the ones that are incompatible, any recommendations?

Thanks,

Bruce

Now Utilities is completely incompatible with OS8.

According to MacAddict, here is what you can use to replace Now Utils:

Now AutoType is replaceable by QuickKeys from CE software, KeyQuencer from Binary Software, or the shareware Type It For Me.

Now FolderMenus has no replacement.  MacAddict suggests you work around this with "clever use of Mac OS 8's pop-up windows".

Now Menus* is replaceable by the shareware BeHierarchic which "should take care of all your menu fixations and enable you to trash Apple Menu Options".

Now QuickFiler* is not worth it.  "If you were using this compression utility, you should have been using Aladdin System's Stuffit Deluxe anyway."  Even DropStuff and StuffitExpander is better.

Now Save* can be replaced by either Aladdin's new Flashback file tracker and/or Norton FileSaver's keystroke tracker.

Now Shortcuts have been replaced by OS8's contextual menus.  There are tonnes of 3rd party plugins for CM.

Now Startup Manager can be replaced by Casady and Greene's Conflict Catcher, which "doesn't quite do what Now Startup Manager did, but it has other, more exciting features, such as catching conflicts, for instance".

Now Super Boomerang can be replaced by Aladdin's Desktop Shortcut.  In a pinch, use the shareware "Default Folder".

Now Tabs has been replaced by OS8's pop-up windows.

Now WYSIWYG Menus* is the one component that has no replacements yet according to MacAddict...  However, I have found that Suitcase 3.0's WYSIWIG menu option works.

Now Profile is rendered obsolete by Apple System Profiler.

Now Scrapbook* is easily replaced by the shareware ScrapIt pro.

Now Software does not have any intentions of releasing future versions of NowUtils since they are concentrating all their focus on a cross platform group-scheduling programme.

I hope I answered all your questions...

I know this is an old answer of mine, but I thought you might still be interested in other options.

Well..  It looks like you're in luck.  I was just browsing around the web and noticed that QUALCOMM (The great people who brought us Eudora) has bought Now Software, taken over development of Now Utilities, and will soon be releasing a version compatible with OS8!

Check out their site at <http://www.eudora.com/nowutilities/>.

Enjoy!
