Unable to optimize CD-ROM

I recently purchased a 24X LiteOn CD Drive to replace my older 10X Wearnes. Previously with the Wearnes CD drive, I could change it's supplemental-cache size to the maximum as well as specify it's optimize access pattern as being quad-speed or higher. After I installed the 24X, I tried to do the same thing but everytime Win95 reboots, the settings are reverted to the original (which is Small Supplemental-Cache AND No read-ahead).

Could anyone please advise?

Sorry for the delay in my reply. Thanks for the detailed info you provided but I don't think it is a problem with the drivers. I checked LiteOn's website and it mentioned to use the drivers that came with Windows 95. In fact, at my office there is another machine which uses a 24X LiteOn as well and it uses the same driver without the problems I mentioned. I'm beginning to wonder if it is possible that the cause may be related to the way my Windows is booted. Anyway, I'm still working on it. Hopefully someone out there can help... :)
THleong: We install Plaxtor, LiteOn, Sony, Panasonic and Teac CD Rom drives in the systems we build. Believe me, try the driver change. If they didn't give you the disk with the drivers, post your email address and I'll send them to you.

Dennis: Guess you know better. Actually my CD-ROM drive did come with a diskette but the drivers on it were only for DOS & Win 3.x. I would truly appreciate it if you could email me the drivers. My email is tuckheng@vads.com.

BTW, do you know of any websites where I can go to find out more about this particular CD-ROM drive?

Thanks for the help you've provided.
It's not that I know better Thleong, there may be other problems, however I have seen the problem you have described before. I make it a practice to go over the obvious first and then dig deeper as necessary. I would appreciate you staying with me though until the issue is fully resolved. You need not re-post the issue, just post your progress here.

PS: Email coming your way!
