Hi Cablefaq ...

Adaptec has some info on the adaptec 2940 and biosupgrades :

Q: What is the difference between the AHA-2940U and AHA-2940AU?
A: The AHA-2940U is an OEM card and is not supported by Tech Support. It can be identified by the following: The banner displays AHA-2940U. It has a flash
bios. The original release was v1.23, the current release is v1.25. The ULTRA feature is implemented in SCSI Select: Configure/View Host Adapter: Advanced
Configuration, and is global in nature.
The AHA-2940AU is a channel product. The banner displays AHA-2940AU. It has a DIP EEPROM. The original BIOS version was v1.21, the current version is
v1.32 and is obtained via Tech Support. The ULTRA feature is implemented in SCSI Select: Configure/View Host Adapter: SCSI Device Configuration and is set
on a device basis.

Q: Can I update the BIOS of my AHA-294x to be ULTRA SCSI compliant?
A: No. The ULTRA option is only implemented on specific assemblies via chipset features.

so make sure which kind of adaptec 2940 you have and if you need more info , go to :
