I am beginning to create some games in C.  I need to know how to use the SBFMDRV.COM which comes with Sound Blaster and compatibles to play music.  For me to accept an answer I need a library of functions for loading in MIDI or other musical files that SBFMDRV.COM can read.  I also need the library to include functions for playing the music (it must work in the background).

Thank you

Is there a reason for not using Windows? Windows already has all of the capabilities you're looking for and makes it relatively easy.

Check out Allegro. It can do what you want, and lots of other
things you'll probably like.

You can find it on <http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Peaks/7599/index.html>.
