I would like to build a small VB app that looks at a public folder on our LAN's e-mail server and simply checks the date/time stamp of the most recent msg

If you're using VB 5, you can use the Win32 functions FindFirstFile and FindNextFile to browse through a directory. Once you have the file names, you can use GetFileTime to get the date/time stamp of the file.

oops, I should have been a bit more specific about the e-mail server...does your solution also include if you're trying to find this info on an Exchange Server Public folder??
