Recycle Bin won't refresh after delete

I have played around a little with my registry and I have changed the files that are connected with the Recycle Bin so that my icons show up there, but there is a problem.  The Full I con shows up when it is full ane the empty when it is empty.  But when I delete a file the empty does not change to full until I click on it and press F5 or until I have restarted my computer, any ideas as to what I did wrong?

Hey, Smeebud if you answer this you read a past answer of yours that mentioned a font scripter - I think? - called gray - something.  Anyway it is a program for changing icons in windows I gathered - the address has changed or is on a page I wasn't able to get to - I wonder if you could tell me the address adn any other relevant info again.  I want to be able to do all the cusomization but I can't justify shelling out $50 for MS plus to do it.  You suggested this as a free alternative and if you can remember or know anything about freeware for customizing windows I would like to know - that goes for anyone, I just thought Smeebud might know.  - thank you.

Make sure this is set

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ CLSID\ {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder
 (Default)   (value not set)
 Attributes   40 01 00 20

Well, both of them were good suggestions, but I have that value set so that is not the problem. Also, I am not interested in pre-mad themes, I want to be able to customize myself.

Too many email signature updates to deal with?

Do you feel like you are taking up all of your time constantly visiting users’ desks to make changes to email signatures? Wish you could manage all signatures from one central location, easily design them and deploy them quickly to users? Well, there is an easy way!

I was intriqued by your post and spent some time this morning testing my solution.
you must still allow the shell32.dll file to process the purge and refresh.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\DefaultIcon
default "C:\windows\system\CanEmpty,Shell32.dll"
empty   "C:\windows\system\CanEmpty,Shell32.dll"
full    "C:\windows\system\CanFull,Shell32.dll"

CanEmpty is the file name of the .ICO file you want to use when empty.
CanFull is the file name of the .ICO file you want to use when full.

you take your ICO file and remove the file extention.
put it in the windows\system directory
and modify the Registry key to the above values and it will empty
and change the icon automatically from BOTH the desktop and
within windows explorer.

wbianc,

That does not seem to be the answer to my problem.  It does refresh now, however the only Icon that it gives is that stupid generic icon of Shell32.dll  I think it might have to do with my icon names so I'll try changing those.  If so I'll award the points.  Otherwise I will tell you and you can see if you have any other ideas.

It was indeed the name of the file.  The registry does not like the files associated here to be only numbers.  I had used a program which labeled my icons as numbers and these would not work for the registry.  So since your answer was right on the money, my thanks.

Yes it seems that anytime you put a numerical reference with a DLL file in a comma delimited string it will search INTERNALLY for the string.
for example the original value for the recycle bin key was:
shell32.dll,32  and shell32.dll,31  these are the variables within the actual compiled library.
I don't know what hex editing or programming tool you have so just load the shell32.dll file into edit under DOS and take a look at LINE 810 COL 58  and  LINE 796 COL 560 and you make gain some insight
