WINS & Netbios

When I filter on IP/Netbios with a protocol analyzer, I get a constant flow of broadcasts. I setup a WINS server and put a couple of people on it. I still get the same type of broadcasts from those IP addresses.

Is a WINS server's function to reduce braodcast traffic?

WINS Server function is not to eliminate broadcast traffic
but Reduces IP broadcast traffic in the Internetwork, while allowing the clients to locate remote systems easily across local or wide-area networks.
LMHOSTS file eliminates broadcasts but need to be manually updated

Make sure you don't have too many machines fighting for the role of Domain Browser - the bigger the machine and os, the more these will try to aquire the role as Domain Browser.
The support pages at www.microsoft.com has some good tips, otherwise, see the NTRESKIT.
