"CONNECTED TO SERVER" DOESN'T MINIMIZE

USING IE4 - AFTER CONNECTION TO INTERNET SERVER MY DIALOGUE BOX "CONNECTED TO CYBERGATE" (WITH SPEED/DURATION) I HAVE TO MANUALLY MINIMIZE TO GET TO HOME PAGE.  HOW CAN I MAKE THE "CONNECTED" BOX MINIMIZE AUTOMATICALLY?
Thank You - tonytoulis

Ttoulis, there should be a small box at the lower portion of the dialogue box. Depending on how you have either IE 4.0 or 4.01 setup, you'll have to either check or uncheck that box and then close it.

Hi Dennis - Thank you for the response to my problem with the dialogue box not minimizing.  The box contains, in addition to the "Connected at" (speed) and "Duration" (clock counting minutes/seconds of connection): DISCONNECT and the Minimize hyphen.  When I clock on "No details" It gives me:
PROTOCOLS
1) TCP/IP
Dennis, I believe I have downloaded and run about all of version 4.01.  If I RIGHT click on the dialogue box banner I get the opportunity to "minimize" or "move", but I don't see the check box??  Thank You,  Tony

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

Okay Tony, let's see if we can back into the problem then. There are 3 types of boxes depending on which DUN version you have installed. Since I can't see the actual box, please describe it for me and I'll help you shut it off. The latest one is real large and the other 2 are smaller, but I need to know which one so we can switch it off.

Thank You Dennis for getting back to me.  I described what text was on the "connected at(speed)" box that I have to manually minimize every time I go to the internet.  Physical size of the box is appx. 1 3/4 x 6 3/4 (4.5 mm x 17.5 mm)- I am not sure Dennis, what "DUN version" means.  Dennis I am not positive about this, but I believe that I have removed/replaced IE4 and it still did not automatically minimize.  What else can I tell you?
Thanks, Tony.

Your welcome Tony. DUN means Dial-Up Networking. There are three versions floating around plus IE 4.0 comes with it's own version.

Okay, let's start from the beginng to try and sort out what needs to be changed or fixed. I don't want to give you some fixes and not know for sure which one applies to your system.

Which version of Windows are you running, 950, 950a or 950b? You can fin this out by going to Control Panel and click the system icon.

Did this window auto minimize before you installed, uninstalled and the reinstalled IE 4.0/4.01?

What went wrong that caused you to remove the original 4.0 install?

After installing 4.0 the last time and you upgraded to 4.01, are you sure the upgrade fully completed?

Thanks Dennis for hanging in here !  the Windows Version is:
4.00.95a, Ie4.04.72.2106.8 - I am guessing here that I did a complete install on the last ie4.  But I specifically remember that the "connected" box would not auto-minimize before I did the installation.  I have the 4.01 coming from MS so I won't have to download to re-instal.  Dennis I don't remember why I re-installed, but It the browser was working at the time.  It was my hope that there was a check box somewhere that would tell the box to minimize (dream on!)??  Will be standidng by.

Okay Tony. There's 2 ways to fix this, you can load the DUN update 1.2 or wait for 4.01 which includes a better DUN than 1.2. Both of these have configurable "connect to" windows.

Hi Dennis - You might nurse-maid me through this.  Is there a site where I go get the software or is it somewhere in my computer now?  Are you saying when I instal another version of "Dial-up Networking" my "connected" box will be replaced by another which will have off/on configurable minimize?  Does everyone with my version have to manually minimize the box?
Thanks!!  Tony

Don't worry about "nurse-maiding" Tony. Many of the techs here work with these operating systems such as Windows 95 as part of their business as we do. There's alot that isn't printed and much that's obscure. In any event, DUN 1.2 is on the MS free software download site, however you would be better served in loading 4.01 instead. On version 950 and 950a, the "connect to" window doesn't auto-minimize without either manually doing it or making a registry change. Version 950b, the OEM version does minimize automatically as does 950a after 4.01 is installed. I would logon to the IE 4.0 download site and install the on-line update, but do it at an off-peak time to speed things up. During the update, you can use the refresh button as necessary if the update stalls. The process is automated and let's you know when it's complete. Do you use MSN?

Dennis - OK on the download - That clears it all up - I mentioned that I had ordered the CD from MS last week and they promised to send it this week.  Either way I do it will solve my little problem.  Thank You VERY MUCH for the patience.  I enjoy this site and certainly have learned a lot since I've started monitoring it and watching the process.  Several of the techs seem to get to the heart of the query and the resolution quickly and yours is probably the best.  I will be back in touch when I get the newest version.
Thanks again!  Tony

DEW_ASSOCIATES - Hi Dennis- re: "connect Box doesn't minimize..." I left you before complete resolution.  I believe I told you I HAD downloaded MS LATEST version of IE4.  IE4.01 - Where you are asked if you want to analyze and they go o9n with telling you what you have already installed.  I have been to the site several times.  The ONLY thing NOT installed are at the very end of the list that deal with languages etc.  Now if I go there again to RE-INSTALL why wouldn't I get the SAME IE4 I have now - with the connect box not minimizing?  Worthy of note might be that after the download/installation I STILL had the MODEM ICON (2 "traffic light" representations) in lower right hand corner rather than the 2 blinking computers??  On other recent update computers I have seen the twin computers?  Dennis if I go download/install again should I have gone to "add/remove" and remove the old IE4 - will I have another bag of snakes when I do the "remove"?  Sorry about taking so long with this little problem.

Thanks - Tony

Dennis (DEW ASSOCIATES) did you say you could send me to the registry and fix the auto minimize??

dew_associatesCommented:
Hi Tony!  We're looking into the registry issue now. I don't want to change anything there unless absoutely necessary. After 4.01 installed completely you should have 2 small computer icons instead of the modem icon. You don't have to uninstall anything, just start the update, the site should check your system for active as well as missing components. If it says nothing is missing, then let me know!

Okeedokee Dennis - I believe that messin' around with the registry cab lead to some unpleasant results if you change the wrong thing!  I went back to the IE4.01 download site and re-analyzed what I don't have updated and I had everything but the languages and a couple of items called "front Page" and "Publisher Wizard" which I can't imagine would bear on the "connect" box.  As I told you I am getting the 4.01 on CD from MS in a day or two to re-install from the CD so I didn't re-download it all.

Stay in Touch Dennis - Thanks, Tony

Hi Dennis!!  I downloaded IE4.01 again with the same results!!  Got the modem representation (rather than the two computers) and still manually minimizing the connect box.

I am looking forward to the "add-on" so please fire away.

HI DENNIS !! (dew)

I don't know what happened.  I don't know if the note above got to you?  I downloaded again.  NO JOY. Still manually minimizing and still got the modem representation (traffic lights) in the corner rather than the two monitors?

I am LOOKING FORWARD to your "add-on" idea Dennis

Tony, insert the calling line for Internet Explorer

it should look something like this if yours is similar to mine!

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Internet\IEXPLORE.EXE

HI DENNIS - WORKS LIKE A CHAMP !! Launch is set up to first connect Outlook Express then minimize and boot the home page of the internet without stopping for coal or water!!  I did get the CD today for Version 4.01 and uninstalled and re-installed Explorer and got the MODEM icon AGAIN (No twin computers!) and the connection box is still NOT configurable!!  (How can this be possible!?)

I AM booting the internet with the LAUNCH utility.  I accidentally got an extra program in the Launch on the task bar and need to delete it.  I have spent several HOURS trying to delete the extra program (Which DOESN'T show up on the Launch List!) and don't have a clue about how to get rid of the program.

How might I delete that??

Thanks for the fine little program Dennis!!

DEW ASSOCIATES - Dennis, the other alternative would be to delete Launch on the task bar and start over.  I haven't been able to delete it either.  Thanks, Tony
