How To Override System Resources?

I would like to know how to override a system resource such as a icon family suite so I can customize a feature without replacing the system resource (ouch!). What I am looking to do is something similar to what I believe Kaleidascope is doing with the CDEF resources. If you have any source code examples or detailed infomration I would love to see it. I can not find any information on the subject.

The resource manager, when asked for a resource, first looks at those it has already loaded into memory.  If not found, it then searches its list of currently open resource files (view the resource manager reference in IM for the exact details of this searching).

So to "replace" a given resource, you can
a) load it into system memory early, and lock it there (via an INIT) so that any subsequent requests for a given resource turn up the one you loaded.
b) make sure a file containing the resource is open and precedes the file containing the default resource in the RM search path.  This is more tricky.
c) if the resource is already loaded, lock it and modify it

(A) is probably what you'd want to do

It is very helpfull to know about the search criteria. I will look at the information reccomended. I appreciate the information and think I can discern the rest for myself.
