Why do the non-dithering gifs I'm exporting from Photoshop suddenly dither on the Sun/Solaris platform?

The reason is probably a different color palette for both platforms. If the Sun/Solaris platform has a different standard color palette, then it will take colors in your GIF and try to approximate them by dithering two standard Sun colors together. The only way to fix this is to use only colors that are shared by both platforms in their standard color palettes.
