Psion 5 keyboard problem

HELP! My Psion keyboard seems to have died, so I can't get into my Psion 5 at all. The reason I think it's a keyboard problem is that nothing is appearing in the Enter password field (normally asterisks appear) and I can't activate the backlight either.

Any ideas how I might solve this problem?

First of all, do you have any link software enabled?  If so then you
can get your data off without having to enter your password.  Just
connect to a PC and transfer away.  (Nasty security flaw in 3 and 3a/c,
don't know whether or not it was fixed in series 5)

Next: Try doing a soft reset and see if that fixes the problem.
You should retain all of your data.

Last resort: Take it to the Psion service centre (especially if
it's under guarantee).  But they may well wipe your data.  Try
talking to them about it to see if you can arrange specially that
they don't.

Often portables have problems with battery/power/powersave.  I have not worked with PSION in particular, but I recommend that if you cannot reset the PSION by CTRL-ALT-DEL, or hitting the RESET switch, that you remove the battery.  It is possible that the keyboard chip or another has entered a weird state that a power down would fix.  Try to turn it off for 20 seconds and turn it back on.
