have noticed that all the machines that had the unattended install and the SYS diff applied to them are coming up with the following service error in the event log:

The Protected Storage service terminated with service-specific error 2148270091.

The message also comes up if I try to start the service. The service is meant to come up automatically, but does not in these cases.

I have tried to get info from the knowledge base but have been unsuccessful in finding anything useful. I just wondered if you knew anything about this service, where it comes from and how I can reinstall it.

In my humble opinion, this service is pure b/s and completely unnecessary. I have a server that people use lcoally and remotely with personal data on it and I disabled it long ago. Haven't run into any problems. Just go to the services cpl and set the startup option to Manual or Disabled.

If you want to I can find info on what this service really is.

Okay, the service is to protect IE4 items on FAT partition when the NTFS file system cannot do that. This way, Noone can read my mail, browse my mailboxes, etc.

Just install NT on NTFS and you don't need this service.
