Sending Mail us ASP and VBScript

I need to send email from an ASP VBScript using MS Exchange (NT4.0 platform with IIS3,IIS4 and PWS). What is the mechanism to create and send the message via Exchange from within the script?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There are a couple of ways. If you want to "log into" the exchange server and create a MAPI session, you will need to use CDO.

Otherwise you can send mail to ANY email address using an SMTP server and either IIS 4.0's SMTP component, OCXMail or ASPMail.
All of these are COM components. You can learn more about these by visiting http://www.flicks.com/ASPMail/aspmailref.htm#ASP or referring to your IIS 4.0 help docs.

I really need help with the mechanism to link into Exchange, ie. CDO. What does this stand for? How do I use it? etc. An example would be great.

CDO = Collaboration Data Object.
If you have the outlook web client, install those and you will get a pretty good idea of how to use CDO.
You can also visit http://premium.microsoft.com/msdn/library/sdkdoc/amsamples_3lgz.htm , which gives you almost everything about CDO.

Frankly, this is all you are going to get for 100 points. If you are trying to accomplish a particular task, state it, so that we can help you. If you want code samples, using CDO, I am afraid you will have to increase the points...it is not that simple. I have hacked the outlook web client and re-pieced it together for a majot firm and charged them an arm and a leg.
