ZyXEL answers with FAX tone!

How can I make my ZyXEL 1496E not to answer with FAX tone? It seems to me that when a line quality is bad, it answers as a FAX, and that prevents me from normal connection with some modems.

Add some commas (3 or 4) after the phone number.  This will pause your modem long enough so that the OTHER modem begins negotiations.

Our modem is installed at the UNIX host, andmost of our customers can reach our system. But some of them get the FAX tone from our modem when it picks up the line.  I never get the FAX answer from our modem when calling it from my PC, but after your recommendation I've got it! I don't want to establish FAX connection, I'd like to prevent my host modem from answering as a FAX.

Add to modem's init string 'AT+FCLASS=0', or save its state as default. Can help also command 'ATS48.1=1'

Another comment: use command 'ATS38.4=1'

Thanks. Now my ZyXEL simply hangs up in such conditions. It is more suitable than FAX answer instead.
