Date miscopy

I have Excel95 files with multiple worksheets in them.  On some of the worksheets are dates.  I select all of the worksheets and then select all of the cells on the worksheets and perform a copy operation.  I then attempt to paste the data into an Excel97 workbook.  Everything copies fine with the exception being that the dates all jump back by 4 years.  In other words, 4/4/97 becomes 4/4/93,etc.  This happens without exception.  How can I avoid or fix this problem?

In Excel 97, Under Tools, choose Options.

Click the Calculation tab, and select 1904 date system.

which includes the sentence

"If two workbooks use different date systems, you may encounter problems when you link or copy dates between workbooks. Specifically, the dates may be shifted by four years and one day." It also has directions on manually repairing the dates, in case changing the date system will cause errors elsewhere in your spreadsheet.
