I have a netcomm Roadster 56K Flex ultra svd. 3047.  It loves to connect at 50K which would be great if my isp's software could handle that speed. I need  an initiation string for the modem config that will force it to only connect between 40 and 48K.

Your ISP is using "digital" equipment,
not "analog" equipment, to connect to
the Telephone Companies high-speed digital network.
The only "analog" section is between the
Telephone Company's digital-switch and
your modem.  This section should work fine
at 50K.

What "symptoms" are you getting?

Check their web-site, namely:
http://www.netcomm.com.au/products/roadster/roadsvd_brochure.htm
for details.

To Otta, It connects but you cannot send or receive data. I need an initiation string to control the speed at which it connects.

Check the URL in my previous message.

You'll find complete documentation on this modem's command-set.
You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free download) to read the PDF file.
