Appointment book

Hi,

I am making an appointment book. Well, its almost done. But I am not sure how I can connect it to the calender. I need an appointmnet book for each day of the year. Also, how can I save the appointments.

Your answer will be much appreciated. I am new to experts-exchange. I am giving 100 points. If you think I need to give more points please let me know.

Thanks - Dooj

Dooj,
   You can use calender control (mscal.ocx) to keep track of days of the year. To save the entries or appointment create & use database & tables with appropriate fields as, date,day,time,venue,person to meet etc. This can be done using RDO database connectivity or DAO database connection(jet engine availabale in VB).If you don't have MScal.ocx file download it from download.com or computers.com
Best of luck,

Dooj,

The absolute best tool that you can use for developing a calendar application is Sheridan's Calendar Widgets.  You can download a useable demo at http://www.shersoft.com

The control provides you with calendars, appointment book layouts, and time scheduling controls.  They can even be bound directly to a database.  The controls also come with a lot of sample source code.

I am sure this will be exactly what you are looking for.

zsi,

I downloaded the controls. But I need to register to be able to use it in my program. I am doing this as my uni assignment. So I dont want to spend $140 on it just for my final assignment. I am still working on the project. Do you hava any working example? I will give you all the points I have.

I need it urgently. I need to submit it on Monday. Can you help me?

Thanks -- Dooj

You should be able to use it in the development environment, just not at runtime.  Is this not enough?

It pops up a box reminding me to register. So I cant use it for my assignment.

If this is a class assignment, why should that be a problem?  Or, are you expected to write the control yourself?

There are freeware calendar controls available.  In fact, the calendar control is one of the most common controls that people write as their first ActiveX/VB project.  You can emulate the appointment book by using a grid control.  I wouldn't worry too much about in-place editing on the appointment book (which the grid control does not support).  You can just plcae a textbox next to the book or have a popup dialog for the input.

Of course, you can try finding someone who has a registered copy of the controls and see if they will compile it for you.

If you decide to follow my first suggestion about writing it yourself, I can help you out with some of the logic.

Hi,
Thanks. I am almost done. I need to print few things like the phone list and appointments. I  need to print what I am viewing. Say for eg. a person's contact details that I am viewing.

Thanks.

zsi,

This is what I have used.:

CrystalReport1.ReportFileName = "ph.rpt"
CrystalReport1.SelectionFormula = "{Sname} = '" & Sname.Text & "'"
CrystalReport1.Action = 0

And I also tried CrystalReport1.SelectionFormula = "SELECT * from Phone where Phone.Sname = '" & Sname.Text & "'"

But it gives an error (err # 20515; it says error in formula).

What should I do now?

Thanks -- Dooj

dooj,

Crystal Reports is really not my forte.  You should grade this question to close it, and then open a new question regarding Crystal Reports.

zsi,

I fixed the error. Just one small favour. If I email you my project , can you go through my code and tell me where I need to improve? If you cant do it, its ok. Just let me know.

Thanks -- Dooj

Normally, I would.  Unfortunately, I have two projects whose deadlines are this Friday and Saturday.  I have a third that is due at the end of this month.  I would hate to offer to check your code and then not be able to do it due to time constraints.

That's alright. Can you do it after you finish your projects? I have submitted my project. Just for my referece I'd like to know what I have done wrong.

Thanks for your help anyway. Just let me know if I can email it to u later on and if I can, your email address.
